We look at the month ahead to bring you the most essential events taking place across Australia to pop into your busy diaries. And, most importantly, which of our stylish frames to wear to each event. From Fashion Week in Sydney to the Fremantle Street Art Festival in Perth, we’ve got your April covered.
Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia
April 6 – April 10 2014
Once again photographers will race along the stone pavements of Carriageworks attempting to snap fashionistas running through the doors to this year’s exclusive shows of Australian Fashion Week. This autumn we can expect high standards to be met from religious Fashion Week participants such as ELLERY, Michael Lo Sordo, Christopher Esber, Alice McCall and Ginger & Smart. However, all eyes will be on everyone’s much beloved Dion Lee following last year’s controversy around his absence at the shows. This year he’s returned with a show entitled “Dion Lee II” at a private location only revealed on the invitation and not even published on the official Fashion Week schedule (standard Dion Lee).
Meanwhile, in a nation where it’s socially acceptable to wear thongs almost anywhere and where people are happiest lying on the beach, the most highly-anticipated shows at Fashion Week have to be for swimwear. Clearly is excited to announce that we’ll be debuting our exclusive frames alongside Aussie swimwear brand We are Handsome on day two of this year’s MBFWA. Swimmers and sunnies – all an Aussie needs! The Twittersphere will surely explode throughout the week as Australian talents emerge and trends swing in full-force, so keep your eyes out and your phones charged across all fields of social media for #ClearlyAU and our involvement throughout the week. Find out more.
When it comes to style, Fashion Week calls for pulling out all the stops. Eyewear is the best place to start as aside from your hair, your glasses are the first thing an onlooker will notice about you. In other words, your glasses could determine whether you get papped or not at MBFWA! We suggest donning our chic cat-eye sunnies by Derek Cardigan. Team with an all-black ensemble and bright cherry lips for maximum style impact.
Audi Festival of German Films 2014
March 27 – April 11 2014
The Audi Festival of German Films 2014 will be showing in Melbourne until the 11th of April. Who doesn’t love German cinematics? For some reason they always come off a bit hysterical and their passions left-field, but that’s what makes them so much fun to watch. Watch the event trailer before booking your tickets today.
Many of us will be forced to read the movie (it’ll be a subtitles extravaganza) from the back of the house (because that’s always the best seat). Look smart and don’t squint with our famous Joseph Marcs gradient frames in brown and lavender.
Lorde on Tour
Celebrate Lorde’s love of clear frames by getting your own customised and polarised pair of Derek Cardigans. This transparent style by Joseph Marc will go with pretty much everything, from basic staples to acid-wash statement pieces.
Macbeth by William Shakespeare
March 24 – April 13
Michael Attenborough (former direction of Royal Shakespeare Company) brings the murder and betrayal in Shakespeare’s Macbeth to Queensland Theatre Company this month for only two weeks. Free yourself of the modern world’s vampire-craze by indulging in your traditional love for witches and kings. To ensure you don’t miss out, book your tickets now.
Look the part and get your nerd on at the theatre this month with our round tortoiseshell glasses by our exclusive brand, Derek Cardigan.
Fremantle Street Art Festival 2014
April 19 – April 21
Many forget that although Perth is far from the urban capital of Australia, the city is home to the famous Fremantle Street Arts Festival. Some of the world’s most acclaimed theatre, music, circus, arts and outdoor performers will showcase this April to satisfy the soul and leave you inspired. Check out this year’s event program and last year’s event trailer.
Outdoor events call for outdoor sun protection- order now to ensure your frames arrive in time for the event. We recommend our exclusive brand Derek Cardigan’s Dark Fades, perfect for teaming with cropped silhouettes and muted colours.
So Cleary fans, there you have it. Our edit of what’s hot around Australia this month. Whatever you decide to get up to, we hope April’s a great one for you! Shop the rest of our eyeglasses and sunglasses for more style inspiration.
