AW14 Glasses Trends

Let’s face it, us Aussies aren’t huge fans of the winter. We pride ourselves on our sunny weather, not to mention the fact we’re happiest getting together on the beach for a barbie! But fear not, Clearly fans; it’s not all doom and gloom. One great thing the dip in the temperature brings us is lots of exciting style options, from cosy knits to chic outerwear. And, most excitingly of course, autumn/winter eyewear trends!

From punchy colour for the gals to wooden hues for the guys, here’s a round up of our exciting eyeglasses trends for the colder months…

Colour Punch

Just because the weather’s colder, doesn’t mean we have to resort to all dark and dreary colours. Our Colour Punch trend celebrates all that’s fun and vibrant, perfect for livening up your autumn/winter attire. Think funky fuchsia, bold blue and punchy purple. Glasses that feature gradients from a bold colour to a neutral hue are also key to this look, ideal for making a more subtle style statement. While for the more confident among us, go the full nine yards and team a block coloured pair of specs with a clashing-coloured ensemble to create a quirky contrast.

Classic Cool

For the guys this autumn, it’s all about giving classic style a modern update with glasses that perfectly mix fashion with function. Our Classic Cool trend is all about bold, black frames that every guy can apply to his look whether it’s for work or weekend. Persol and Derek Cardigan are both great brands to reference for this geek-chic-inspired look, with their funky frames that blend traditional style with quirky cool. Team with lightweight sweaters layered over a shirt and tie and you’ll be boardroom-ready in no time.

Pretty Pastels

Traditionally a trend you’d associate with spring, pastels have become so popular in recent years they’ve remained a trend all year round. It’s become hard to spot a Tumblr page that doesn’t feature some gorge gal with pale purple or pink locks; the same can be said for frocks and footwear. So it’s no surprise pastels have continued to be big news in eyewear this season, perfect for breaking up dark outerwear and textured knits. From brilliant birch to lovely lilac, our Pretty Pastels trend will keep things fun, fresh and feminine from now to spring.

Grey Scale

Perhaps one of our more typical wintry trends, Grey Scale is all about steely tones and smoky hues. Sophisticated yet stylish, you can always rely on a grey palette as it will pretty much go with anything you pair it with. Whether you want fantastic functionality with Lacoste’s gunmetal glasses or quirky cool with Derek Cardigan’s clear smoke or fog frames, grey is the way to go this winter. For a tonal take on the trend, team your grey glasses with a sharp shirt and trousers in different shades of grey. Shop the trend with the following styles:

Print Perfect

Similar to our Colour Punch trend, prints are perfect for injecting some life into your winter wardrobe. Print Perfect is one of our most significant trends this season, seeing as prints feature on many styles across our vast collection of eyeglasses. From Kam Dhillon to Jimmy Choo, it’s clear that prints and patterns are a must-have for every style-lover in AW14. Team a printed pair of specs with a plain knit and cigarette trousers to keep emphasis on your eyewear, or for a more fashion-forward approach mix and match prints together. Buy into the trend with the following styles:

Moody Mahogany

The last of our AW14 trends is another very wintry look for the guys. Our Moody Mahogany trend is all about warm, wooden tones such as roasted umber and burnt brown; perfect for teaming with chunky knits and other warm tones such as deep plum. Our exclusive brand Derek Cardigan is the go-to for this trend, with its chunky frames in Havana Brown and dark timber. Despite its name, this trend is more masculine than moody; an essential for every man this autumn.
