Sisters are doing it for themselves! Or at least blogging-sister duo, Maddie and Jordan Livesey from blog/shop Boutique HQ, are! We chat to the stylish siblings about everything from how they curate their online store to what eyewear styles they’ll be rocking this winter.

A blog and a shop, what a clever idea! Tell us how that concept came about?
We found ourselves getting frustrated when we’d see amazing pictures of clothes on blogs but couldn’t see where anything was from to buy it!
We also realised that we were each following hundreds of different brands, online retailers and local and international boutiques on Instagram and thought that it would be cool to create the one Instagram account and online store which curated the best pieces from them all.
E-commerce is where it seems to be happening, what do you think makes online shopping so appealing to consumers?
It’s really the beauty of having a world of fashion at your fingertips. We love connecting people with a stunning designer handbag that’s just gone on sale through an overseas department store, or bringing an amazing Australian boutique or designer to the attention of followers overseas.
It’s all about making shopping as easy as possible. We do the research for you so you can shop anytime, anywhere and then have it delivered to your door.
How do you curate the clothes for your blog shop?
We don’t try to pick things to appeal to a certain market, we just pick what we like and that’s what gives Boutique HQ its unique style. Our styles are pretty similar but different enough that we don’t always agree on things. I guess we filter each others’ looks to make sure no suspect choices make it through to the shop!
We are also big believers in showcasing product for a range of budgets. We love our designer pieces but always mix it up with affordable styles too.
A/W is typically a bit miserable, how can fashion and eyewear brighten up gloomy days?
We love monochromatic dressing but accessories are a cool way to brighten up trans-seasonal looks. Colourful shoes, bags, frames or even lipstick really make the outfit.
Who are your favourite spec wearing style icons?
For the men it would have to be David Beckham and Ryan Gosling.
Aussie model Jess Hart wears glasses really well, as does Cate Blanchett.
What eyewear trends are big this season?
We’re loving distinctive tortoiseshell frames, the Tokyo Tortoise colour is perfect.
What style of eyewear will you both wear this autumn/winter?
Any frames in Tokyo Tortoise!
Do you ever wardrobe swap?
All the time, but unfortunately we don’t have the same size feet or the same glasses prescription so that rules out shoe sharing and glasses sharing.
Why is eyewear such an important accessory in creating a look?
Sunglasses offer instant cool (and can hide many sins). Glasses have the same ability to transform a look, we always feel more sophisticated and more polished with glasses on.
If you could meet any of the designers listed on your site who would it be?
Probably Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, designers for Elizabeth and James and The Row. They’re sisters and a similar age to us. We’d definitely ask them what the secret was to designing and then selling out of their $40,000 The Row Crocodile Backpacks.
