From Fashion Weekend in Sydney to FashFest in Canberra, here’s our guide to what’s hot around Oz this May (despite the temperatures not being so hot). And, as always, which styles of glasses to wear at each event…
Fashion Weekend Sydney
Fashion Week may be over, but Sydneysiders can still get caught up with all the hype by breaking the budget and heading to the annual Fashion Weekend held at the Royal Hall of Industries. The event is sure to be a hit with over 100 Aussie designers setting up their stalls and a selected few exhibiting on the Fashion Weekend runway.
All your Fashion Week favourites will be available for purchase at discounted prices including Bec & Bridge, By Johnny, Christopher Esber and Ginger and Smart. Check out the full list of designers.
Plus, for the first time ever our pals over at We Are Handsome will be debuting at Fashion Weekend! Suss out the collection and the pieces to keep an eye out for, after you re-live Clearly’s Fashion Week collaboration with WAH!
We’d suggest donning a pair of our cat-eye Derek Cardigan 7005 sunglasses to Sydney Fashion Weekend, as worn by the We Are Handsome model above.
Biennale of Sydney 2014 – Cockatoo Island
21 Mar-09 Jun
It’s getting quite chilly in Sydney, and what better way to spend your weekends than layering on some clothes, popping on a pair of shades and jumping on a ferry to Cockatoo Island to celebrate Sydney’s world famous Biennale? The festival is only running for another month – so don’t miss out!
Step into a wondrous worlds of art, theatre and digital animation. International installations throughout the island will keep you intrigued and mesmerised, allowing great opportunities to interact with the pieces as you step into the art itself. We recommend “Randi & Katrine: The Village”, a life-size recreated Danish village.
Cockatoo Island will be serving up yummy dumplings at the Bamboo Dumpling Bar and great Aussie wines and the Yering Station Wine Bar to keep you snug, so all you need is yourself, your family and a couple of mates for a fun day out.
You’ll be stepping in and out of installations all day, so why not avoid the hassle of taking your sunnies on and off by selecting our photochromic lenses? Transitioning from outdoors to indoors couldn’t be easier with Cleary.com.au, offering photochromic features on all prescription frames. Our faves for the Biennale are Derek Cardigan 7038 in Matte Black.
She Runs 10k Sydney – Around Sydney
Sat 03 May
Last year’s Nike run consisted of up to 6, 000 women who raced the 10K nocturnal course. This year, women across the city will participate in She Run Sydney to celebrate their motivation, determination and passion for good health, positive vibes and wholesome lifestyle. Many have chosen to run in groups for sponsorship by mates or work to raise awareness and money for various charities and awareness groups.
If you’ve missed registrations, you can still train alongside participants by heading down to the Nike She Runs Hub at the North Bondi Surf Lifesaving Club for free training sessions, or meet them for celebrations at the finish line in Centennial Park for drinks, food trucks, a disco ball and good tunes!
Run at full speed and reach your full potential in this winter run with our Bolle vortex glasses. Rose lenses – we love!
Melbournites have gone absolutely wild over the opening of Australia’s first UNIQLO at the Emporium Melbourne… and rightly so! Spread across 3, 000 square metres, the Japanese brand offers cuts, fabrics, textures and styles for all ages, genders, events and lifestyles. Their collections are so diverse with all pieces available in so many colours, you’ll lose your mind. The only thing they don’t stock? Glasses! We’re matching UNIQLO’s women’s winter range with our LOVE 747 range.
And for the boys? Smart casual has never been easier with R Hardy’s 9030 frames.
You’re guaranteed to find something suitable and stylish at a friendly price at UNIQLO. Fingers crossed they will open up stores across the rest of the country!

Clearly loves Zoe Brown’s fantasy-inspired label “WND.LND”. Short for ‘Wonderland’, Brown combines pastel palettes, nature and magic to create a floral affair amongst fashion and romance. New to Clearly.com.au is our Mugler range, perfectly suited for WND.LND’s fantasy feel.
