In fact, they have even been a popular style among Hollywood characters like Albus Dumbledore of the harry Potter series.\u00a0 But don\u2019t brush this style off as something only fictional characters from movies wear, real people wear them as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clearly.com.au\/ready-reading-eyeglasses\">reading glasses<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clearly.com.au\/ready-reading-eyeglasses\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.com.au\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/half-moon-glasses-reading-history.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Half Moon Glasses\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-7983\" height=\"496\" width=\"560\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With that being said, half-moon glasses are actually a very practical style to choose if you need glasses for reading.\u00a0 They are light-weight, modest, and you won\u2019t get them mixed up with anyone else\u2019s! Since there is no top lens, your eyes won\u2019t become dependent on glasses to see when looking away from your reading.<\/p>\n<p>Although it seems like glasses have been around since the Stone Age, it wasn\u2019t until the middle age in 1260 AD that they first appeared in Italy. Initially made for the elderly, they soon became popular with others who had vision problems and many who had trouble seeing clearly now could. Their glasses didn\u2019t look like the ones we wear now though. There was a lens attached to a handle and the user had to hold them up.<\/p>\n<p>Next, the Spanish attempted to make reading glasses that had a loop around the ear, they weren\u2019t practical but it took almost 500 years before another style was made. It was in 1730 that an English optician named Edward Scarlett created glasses that had arms that were more snug to the ears and didn\u2019t require a loop around the ears.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.clearly.com.au\/ready-reading-eyeglasses\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.clearly.com.au\/thelook\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/07\/half-moon-glasses-reading-glasses.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"Half Moon Glasses\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7985\" height=\"305\" width=\"560\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>50 years later the multi-talented Benjamin Franklin developed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clearly.com.au\/ready-reading-eyeglasses\">modern reading glasses<\/a> which we today call bifocals. He was tired of having to change between his reading and distance glasses each time he needed them for a task he had his optician make him a new pair. He created glasses that were made for reading at the bottom and distance at the top so that he didn\u2019t have to change glasses to ever see clearly.<\/p>\n<p>Further changes have been made to reading glasses and more changes will come in the near future. Who would have ever thought contact lenses would be a real thing? Just imagine the possibilities.
