Find\u00a0a\u00a0clean\u00a0place\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A bathroom or dressing room is a\u00a0popular\u00a0choice.\u00a0Stand in front of a mirror and find a flat space\u00a0to place your contact lens case and solution.\u00a0You\u2019ll\u00a0need\u00a0two freshly washed and lint-free towels\u00a0on hand.\u00a0Spread one of them on the flat space \u2013 if you drop your contact lens, it\u2019s much better to have it land on a clean towel.\u00a0The other will be used to dry your hands after washing them.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re putting in your contact lens and it drops into the sink, it\u2019s best not to wear that lens until it\u2019s been\u00a0cleaned and disinfected\u00a0(which generally takes at least 6 hours).<\/p>\n<p aria-level=\"3\"><strong>2.\u00a0Wash\u00a0your\u00a0hands\u00a0thoroughly\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll need\u00a0clean, freshly washed hands\u00a0when\u00a0you\u00a0touch your eyes\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0surrounding area\u00a0to\u00a0prevent\u00a0transferring\u00a0any bacteria.\u00a0Thorough rinsing of your hands is\u00a0also important\u00a0in order to avoid soap being left on your fingertips, which could transfer to your contact lens before insertion and end up stinging your eye. Rinse and dry thoroughly with your towel.<\/p>\n<p aria-level=\"3\"><strong>3. Organize\u00a0your\u00a0lenses\u00a0and\u00a0decide\u00a0on a routine\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To reduce the chances of eye infection,\u00a0you should\u00a0designate one specific lens to one specific eye \u2013\u00a0don\u2019t swap them between each eye when you put them on, even if your contact lens prescription is the same for each eye.\u00a0if you develop an infection in one eye for some\u00a0reason ,\u00a0it won\u2019t get spread to both which can happen very easily if you were switching lenses.<\/p>\n<p>Make it easy to keep track by deciding an order that you always stick to. Let\u2019s say you choose to\u00a0start with your right eye.\u00a0Keep the same order every time\u00a0you put in your contacts. That way, it\u2019ll be easier to keep track of which lens belongs in which eye!<\/p>\n<p aria-level=\"3\"><strong>4. Take\u00a0your\u00a0contacts out of the package and\u00a0rinse\u00a0them\u00a0with\u00a0cleaning\u00a0solution\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If the lens is coming straight out of the blister pack, it can be inserted without rinsing with a solution.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">If your lens is stored in a cleaning case, give it a quick rinse with the solution to remove any loose bits of protein that resisted the cleaning process. P<\/span>lace the contact lens on your fingertip and\u00a0look at the\u00a0edges of the lens. The edges should point almost straight upwards, like a \u201cU\u201d. If they flare out, this means it\u2019s inside out and you simply need to flip it the right way around.<\/p>\n<p>b. Try using\u00a0the \u201ctaco test\u201d. Balance\u00a0the lens on your finger, gently squeeze each side of the lens together. If the lens bends easily into the shape of a taco shell, it\u2019s oriented properly. If the lens resists bending slightly into a taco shape, it\u2019s inside out.<\/p>\n<p>c. Another method is to look for the laser engravings<span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0such as \u201c123\u201d or \u201cOK\u201d on them. Just before the lens touches your eye, blink a couple of times\u00a0to encourage a fresh layer of tears on your eye.<\/p>\n<p>2.
