Through your benefits, you likely have insurance dollars that include optical purchases, including prescription glasses, prescription sunglasses, and contact lenses. Follow these steps to make sure that you have optical coverage – and that you are using your allotment before it runs out! We also recommend placing any glasses orders by December 18th, 2017 to better ensure that your order will ship and be charged within 2017.
Check with Your Insurer
As each insurance company has their own policies, and the best first step is to check with your insurer about your policy, the amount you have to spend, and any deadlines that you have to keep in mind. Remember, if you have dependents on your policy to also check about their individual allotments under your policy.
Clearly.com.au is a recognized provider with most Australian health funds. If you are a member of a fund and your coverage includes optical appliances, you may be able to claim your purchase.
To find out whether you can claim your purchase call 1 800 639 478 or visit clearly.com.au/healthfunds and find the provider number of your health fund. Keep this number and add it to your receipt once it is received (see below)
Make Sure that You Have a Current Prescription
Before ordering glasses or contact lenses online, make sure that you have an up-to-date prescription and that you are purchasing the correct product with the right prescription.
Keep Track of your Benefit Deadlines
Many insurance companies have deadlines at the end of each calendar year, and depending on the company they may or may not allow you to roll any outstanding benefits into the next year. The date that your insurer will review is the date that your order was shipped, which means you may need to factor in whether your product is in stock and the time required to assemble it. Place Your Order
The following steps can help your insurer to process your claim:
- Order only what you are prescribed to wear. Insurers exclude cosmetic products (i.e. do not include a corrective prescription).
- You can include date of birth in your MyAccount, and name of who you are ordering for in your shipping details.
- For a customized receipt that includes the date(s) of birth, and other required details, call us at 1800 639 478 and we will email an itemized receipt to you.
Submit Your Detailed Receipt to Your Insurer
Once your order has shipped you will receive a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement. Add the number of your health fund on the first page of your receipt where it says “Provider Number”.
